The short answer

In Marvel Rivals, the free game from NetEase Games and Marvel Games released on 6 December 2024, Spider-Man is a Duelist with 250 health who fights in the air: he marks his target with Web-Cluster, dives on them with Get Over Here! then swings away with Web-Swing. He takes practice to learn. As of 26 September 2026, he has 17 costumes on top of his default look, and Venom, Peni Parker and Black Cat complete the spider side of the game.

Marvel Rivals in brief: a free game, on console and PC

Marvel Rivals is a team-based shooter, a 'hero shooter', developed and published by NetEase Games with Marvel Games. It came out on 6 December 2024 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, via Steam and the Epic Games Store. A PlayStation 4 version followed on 12 September 2025, without some of the modes: on an older console, check which ones before you organise a games night with friends.

The model is free-to-play: every hero is unlocked for free, at launch and afterwards, and the game funds itself through cosmetics. The costume shop runs on Units, the battle pass on Lattice, and its premium version costs 990 Lattice. So you can play Spider-Man from your very first match without spending a penny: money only changes how he looks. The Spider-Man video games page puts this title back among the hero's other games.

The game moves forward in seasons, and Season 10 started on 11 September 2026. It does not tell the story of Peter Parker's life the way a single-player game does: it has him fight alongside and against the other heroes of a roster that numbers 54 on the official page. For an open-city campaign, the Insomniac games covered in our articles on Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on PS5 and on Spider-Man: Miles Morales answer a different need.

Spider-Man's role: a Duelist who strikes and pulls back

Spider-Man, under the identity of Peter Parker, has been playable since launch. The game sorts its heroes into 3 official classes: Vanguard, Duelist and Strategist. Vanguards soak up damage and open the way, Strategists heal and support, Duelists handle the damage. Spider-Man belongs to that last class. His job is not to hold a position, but to sow chaos in the enemy lines.

His official profile lists 250 health and a movement speed of 6 m/s. That total leaves little room to stay exposed: Spider-Man survives by moving, not by soaking up damage. His job is to spot an isolated target, a Strategist hanging back for instance, take them out of the fight and leave before the enemy team turns round. It is a dive role, very different from that of a marksman posted at range.

The game also gives him a setting. According to his profile, since the 'Timestream Entanglement' Spider-Man has split his time between New York and Tokyo Webworld, where he protects the 'Web of Life and Destiny' alongside the Web-Warriors. Tokyo 2099, his universe and Peni Parker's, covers the Shin-Shibuya and Spider-Islands maps. These parallel worlds call to mind the Marvel multiverse, which the page devoted to the Spider-Verse details version by version.

Plenty of players who spend dozens of hours on one hero end up wanting that silhouette off the screen too, at a convention, at a LAN or in front of a stream camera. The shop's Spider-Man outfits and costumes answer that urge, from the classic red and blue models to the versions that carry the game's name. The first of them keeps the hero's usual colours, with a big black spider across the chest.

Spider-Man's abilities and how to chain them

On PC, with the default keybinds, the basic attack is on left click. Spider-Power chains punches together, then adds a flying kick after 2 successful hits. Right click fires Web-Cluster: 5 charges, each recharging in 2 seconds, which plant a Spider-Tracer on the enemy you hit. That marker is the pivot the whole character turns on.

The E key triggers Get Over Here!. With no tracer, it drags the enemy towards you. With a tracer on the target it works the other way round: Spider-Man is pulled towards them and lands a flying kick, on an 8-second cooldown. The F key launches Amazing Combo: an uppercut dealing 70 damage that knocks the enemy into the air, with 2 charges and a 1-second cooldown since the balance patch published on 8 September 2026.

For movement, Web-Swing (Shift) gives 3 charges, each recharging in 6 seconds, and Thwip and Flip (Space) a double jump. The kit is rounded off by 2 passives: Spider-Sense flags enemies within an 8-metre radius, and Wall Crawl lets him climb walls at 3 m/s or sprint along them at 9 m/s.

The ultimate, Spectacular Spin (Q key), costs 2,800 energy points. Spider-Man fires Web-Clusters all around him, within an 8-metre radius, for 2.4 seconds. Each hit slows the target, 20 hits stun them for 1.5 seconds, and Spider-Man gains 250 bonus health. Since the 15 May 2026 build, each hit deals 15 damage, 450 in total, up from 408. The order of the steps below is not official: it follows from those effects.

1
Mark Hit the target with Web-Cluster (right click) to plant the Spider-Tracer, keeping charges back for what comes next.
2
Dive on them Use Get Over Here! (E): with the tracer down, you are pulled towards the enemy and land a flying kick.
3
Launch them Follow up with Amazing Combo (F): the 70-damage uppercut sends the target into the air.
4
Finish Finish with Spider-Power (left click): after 2 successful hits, the flying kick is added to the punches.
5
Get out Leave the area with Web-Swing (Shift) or Thwip and Flip (Space) before they hit back.

Who is Spider-Man for?

Spider-Man suits players who like speed and verticality. His whole kit rests on movement: web-swinging, double jump, wall running, pulling himself towards a target. He is not played from behind a shield or at long range, and he heals no one. If you enjoy picking your fights, isolating an opponent then vanishing straight away, his logic will click quickly, even if getting to grips with him takes time.

The trade-off is the learning curve. With 250 health, a misplaced step is paid for immediately. The tracer imposes a precise order on the abilities, the charges need watching constantly, and your camera has to follow movement in every direction. A player who uses him like a marksman, planted in the middle of the scrum, loses exchange after exchange. The mistakes below come straight out of his kit.

Mistakes to avoid with Spider-Man

  • Using Get Over Here! with no tracer With no mark down, the ability drags the enemy towards you instead of sending you at them.
  • Staying on the ground With 250 health, Spider-Man copes badly with a head-on exchange: the walls and the web-swinging are what keep him safe.
  • Burning your Web-Swing on the way in The 3 charges take 6 seconds each to recharge: keep one back to get out.
  • Using the ultimate too far out Spectacular Spin works within an 8-metre radius: far from the enemy team, it hits no one.
  • Ignoring Spider-Sense The passive flags enemies within 8 metres: it is your warning before you are caught from behind.

For a teenager discovering the game, it can help to start with a Vanguard like Venom, long enough to learn the maps and the rhythm of the fights, then move on to Spider-Man. For a player used to combo-driven action games, the switch will feel more natural: the keys change, the logic stays the same. And if your teenager prefers another version of the hero, the article on the Spider-Man versions fans love most will help them find their way.

Venom, Peni Parker, Black Cat: the Spider-Man universe in the game

Spider-Man is not alone in representing his universe. Venom, under the identity of Eddie Brock, has been playable since launch in the Vanguard class. His official abilities include Dark Predation, Venom Swing, Symbiotic Resilience and Frenzied Arrival, with Feast of the Abyss as his ultimate. To get to know the character beyond the game, read thefull story of the black symbiote; fans of the creature will also find Venom and Carnage figures.

Peni Parker, pilot of the SP//dr mech, has also been there since launch, as a Vanguard. She shares Tokyo 2099 with Spider-Man, along with a team-up ability live in September 2026: Parker Power-Up, through which Peni builds him a Sticky Spider-Bomb, its cooldown cut from 15 to 10 seconds by the balance patch published on 8 September 2026. The profile also lists Symbiote Bond, with Venom, whose Venom and the symbiotes page traces the link with Spider-Man, though these pairings change from season to season.

Black Cat, alias Felicia Hardy, joined the game on 17 April 2026, in Season 7.5, as a Duelist. The Season 7 story, launched on 20 March 2026, pairs her with Spider-Man in a 'Trojan Horse' plan against Kingpin, Wilson Fisk, who remains a story character rather than a playable hero. Knull, god of the symbiotes, was for his part the antagonist of Season 3. The page on the Spider-Man character universe puts each of them back in the comics.

Not playable as of 26 September 2026

Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen and Silk appear neither among the 54 heroes on the official page nor in the patch notes. Kingpin and Knull turn up in the season storylines without being playable. On the Spider-Man side, the roster holds Spider-Man, Venom, Peni Parker and Black Cat.

This matters if you are planning a gift. A child who is a fan of Miles Morales or Spider-Gwen will not find them in Marvel Rivals: they will meet them in the films, the comics or other games. A costume in their image is still perfectly possible, mind you: you pick it independently of the game, on the photos and the sizes, like any other outfit of the hero.

Spider-Man's 17 costumes in Marvel Rivals

As of 26 September 2026, Spider-Man has 17 costumes, which players usually call skins, on top of his default look. The count matches between FandomWire and RivalSkins, and the official patch notes from 26 August to 24 September 2026 add none. Several carry the names of special Spider-Man suits known from the comics, such as Iron Spider or Future Foundation. Spider-Man: No Way Home, on permanent sale for 2,600 Units, takes the name of a film whose design our article on Spider-Man's film costumes retraces.

2025 added 8 costumes. On 30 January, the collaboration with Marvel's Spider-Man 2 brought the Advanced Suit 2.0, timed for the PC release of the Insomniac game: the suits in the PS5 game have a guide of their own. In July, the Season 3 battle pass, 'The Abyss Awakens', offered the Black Suit, a symbiote costume whose origin is told in The Alien Costume Saga. Iron Spider, given away in Season 5, can no longer be obtained.

In 2026, time-limited costumes multiplied. Peter Parker: The Photographer, sold from 17 April to 15 May, came back from 31 July to 13 August for Spider-Man Day, which celebrated the hero's first appearance with a dedicated shop tab. The same day saw the release of the Spider-Man: Brand New Day pack, timed with the film, whose new suit is broken down on the blog, as is choosing an outfit for the release.

From the game to the convention: wearing Spider-Man for real

Plenty of players end up wanting the character off the screen: for a convention, a LAN, a Halloween party or a costumed stream. Before buying, judge on the photos rather than on the product name: compare the colours, the emblem and the patterns with the skin you actually use in game. And if a full bodysuit feels like too much, a Spider-Man mask is sometimes enough for a group photo.

The shop's Scarlett Spider-Man costume takes its name from the Scarlet Spider, the game's PlayStation exclusive. Its photo shows a red and black model, seen from the front and from the back. It is listed at €129.90, from 110 to 150 in children's sizes then from S to 3XL, according to its product page. For a more classic version, the men's Spider-Man costumes bring together the adult models.

Seen from the front and the back, the suit is red and black: black head, shoulders and upper back, red body, a stylised black spider on the chest and the back, raised webbing down the legs. For stepping away from red and blue.

Other profiles have their own guides. For a child, the article on the outfit to pick by age and occasion and the one that helps you choose a Spider-Man outfit for a child set out the size and comfort criteria. The 3 Marvel Rivals costumes shown here run from 110 to 3XL, according to their product pages, which means a parent and child can wear the same hero.

For a woman player, the guide to women's Spider-Man outfits gathers the models designed for her. For those who have taken up the Black Suit in game, the symbiote costume guide compares the black versions of Spider-Man, Venom and Anti-Venom. Either way, check the size on the product page before ordering, especially for a gift whose exact measurements you do not know.

The setup around the game: PS5 case, headset and mouse mat

The setup depends on your platform. On PS5, a Spider-Man PS5 case dresses up the console or the controller; our guide to Spider-Man PS5 cases separates console cases from controller cases and runs through the designs, so there is no need to repeat it here. On Xbox Series X|S as on PC, most of the setup happens elsewhere: in the sound and on the desk.

Sound matters in a team game: footsteps, enemy abilities and your team-mates' calls are all picked up by ear, all the more so since Spider-Sense only flags enemies within an 8-metre radius. The Spider-Man headsets and earphones cover that need. On PC, where Spider-Man is played with a mouse in hand, a Spider-Man mouse mat gives room for the fast camera moves that web-swinging and wall running demand.

For the look of it, the guide to Spider-Man mouse mats sorts them by design and by setup. If you stream your matches, the backdrop counts as much as the kit: a Spider-Man figure in shot is enough to set the theme. Some go further and play a special evening in costume, so that the picture and the game tell the same story.

The key takeaways

Marvel Rivals is free, released on 6 December 2024 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, then on 12 September 2025 on PS4. Spider-Man has been playable in it without paying a penny since day one. He is a Duelist with 250 health who lives in the air: he does not look for the head-on exchange, he picks a target, hits it and leaves. The game's text and voice acting are available in English.

His kit comes down to one rule: tracer first. Web-Cluster marks the target, Get Over Here! throws you at it, Amazing Combo launches it into the air, and Web-Swing gets you out of there. The Spectacular Spin ultimate deals 450 damage over 2.4 seconds and stuns after 20 hits. In September 2026, the Parker Power-Up team-up ability, with Peni Parker, is live.

On the cosmetic side, 17 costumes sit alongside the default look as of 26 September 2026, from Scarlet Spider to Spider-Man: Brand New Day: some given away, others sold for Units or tied to a battle pass or a limited event. To wear the hero for real, judge the costumes on their photos and their sizes, then round out the setup to suit your platform.

Spider-Man rewards patient players: the first few matches take real application, then the chain becomes a reflex. Learn it in order (mark, dive, launch, leave), always keep one swing charge back for the way out, and let the costumes, in game and in real life, come afterwards.
