The short answer

Bruce Banner sits at the centre of the story: he has built a device meant to block his transformation, while Peter develops organic webs and eyes that turn pitch black. The telepathic character played by Sadie Sink is said to unleash the green giant against him. We break down every clue below. This is it: the second trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has landed. Posted by Sony on 17 June 2026 — the very day tickets went on sale — this new trailer doesn't just show more: it drops the wildest revelations since the film was announced. The return of the Savage Hulk, Peter Parker's unsettling mutation and the first real glimpse of Sadie Sink's powers set social media alight within minutes. Six weeks before the French release, set for 29 July 2026, we round up everything trailer 2 has taught us — and everything it is still hiding. For more on this, see also Spider-Man: Brand New Day — the final trailer decoded.

The trailer's bombshell: the Savage Hulk is back

This is THE revelation nobody saw coming. The trailer confirms Mark Ruffalo's return as Bruce Banner — but not just any Banner, and not just any Hulk. We get the Savage Hulk, the most bestial, uncontrollable version of the green giant, the one fans have been calling for for more than ten years. In the trailer, Peter goes to find Banner, who has developed a device able to suppress the mutation in his DNA and stop his transformation. Banner's warning is blood-chilling: 'If you ever see me without this device… run.' For more on this, see also Organic webs: why Peter's spider DNA is taking over in Brand New Day.

Seeing Spider-Man take on the Savage Hulk is a fan dream come true. The two heroes have crossed paths in the comics before, and their duels are among Marvel's most memorable — a legacy we trace in our feature on the iconic fights between Spider-Man and Hulk. But this time the context is new: it isn't a scrap born of a misunderstanding, it's an orchestrated threat. And that is where everything connects.

The return of the Savage Hulk

Mark Ruffalo returns as Bruce Banner, who has built a device that suppresses the mutation in his DNA to stop him turning into the Savage Hulk.

Peter Parker's mutation: organic webs and black eyes

The synopsis teased it; trailer 2 shows it head-on: Peter Parker is going through a biological change as fascinating as it is frightening. The trailer digs far deeper into this mutation, which now gives him organic webs — as in the trilogy by Sam Raimi — and which, at times, turns his eyes completely black. This understated body horror gives the film a darker, more mature tone, in keeping with the shift that began after the events of No Way Home.

This transformation isn't a cosmetic detail: it is the heart of the plot. If Banner has developed a device precisely to 'suppress mutant DNA', it's because Peter's mutation and the threat hanging over him are connected. The film seems to be exploring a dizzying question: what if Spider-Man's power started to outgrow him? This new beginning, lonelier and more dangerous, extends what we described in our analysis of the great reset that changed Peter Parker's life.

Organic webs

As in Sam Raimi's trilogy.

Black eyes

At times, his eyes turn completely black.

Heart of the plot

Peter's mutation and Banner's device are connected.

Sadie Sink finally revealed: she's the one who unleashes the Hulk

The film's most debated mystery has just taken a big step forward. Trailer 2 gives us the first real glimpse of Sadie Sink's character: a hooded figure wielding mental powers. We see her communicate with Peter by telepathy and appear to change her appearance. But the shock revelation is her role: she is apparently the one who unleashes the Savage Hulk and turns it against Spider-Man, most likely to protect her secret.

Telepathy, mind control, a hood, immense powers: all of it reignites the theory that has gripped fans for months — Jean Grey. We devoted a full investigation to who Sadie Sink really plays and the Jean Grey theory, and this new trailer only strengthens that lead. If it is confirmed, the stakes go beyond Spider-Man: it would mean the mutants arriving in the MCU through the web-slinger's door — a long-standing link recalled in our feature on the links between Spider-Man and the X-Men. Marvel, true to form, is keeping the secret right to the end.

Is the Punisher in on it?

Another detail spotted by the sharpest-eyed fans: Frank Castle, the Punisher played by Jon Bernthal, doesn't seem affected by the mental 'wave' that hits the other characters. An anomaly the theorists have not missed. According to the rumours doing the rounds, the Punisher could be in league with Sadie Sink's character, perhaps tasked with protecting her from Damage Control.

That murky position fits perfectly with the street-level, criminal atmosphere the film cultivates, and with the complicated relationship the two characters share in the comics, which we explore in our article on Spider-Man and the Punisher: from enemy to unstable partner. Ally, enemy, or both at once? The trailer keeps the doubt alive with real skill.

The Punisher anomaly

Frank Castle, played by Jon Bernthal, seems spared by the mental wave; rumours make him an ally of Sadie Sink's character.

The homemade suit and the 'web tornado' driving fans wild

Beyond the plot revelations, trailer 2 made its mark through its filmmaking. Reactions on social media are unanimously enthusiastic. Fans are praising the 'homemade' suit, more practical and more textured, with one user writing that 'the creases bring it to life'. One sequence in particular has everyone agreeing: the 'web tornado', a tornado of webbing described as 'the coolest thing ever seen' in a Spider-Man film.

Many also point out that the web-swinging scenes recall The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the absolute benchmark of the genre for plenty of fans. 'It looks cinematic, Spider-Man is cool and sarcastic, there's drama, there's creativity', sums up one widely shared comment. After the Stark suit of the early films, this return to a more handmade, more mature Spider-Man confirms the character's shift, in line with everything we anticipated about the release date and casting of Spider-Man 4.

The embarrassing record: both trailers leaked

All that hype comes with a shadow over Marvel and Sony, though. The second trailer leaked widely online before its official release on 17 June — exactly as the first one had. It is a first in MCU history: never before had both trailers for the same film leaked ahead of their scheduled release. An unenviable record, which says a lot about the sheer level of anticipation around the film… and about how hard studios find it to contain the excitement.

Sony has officially responded to the leaks, without managing to stem the tide. For fans, it is above all a sign that Brand New Day has become one of the most closely watched cinema events of the year — on a par with the reunion teased in our feature on Spider-Man's role in Avengers: Doomsday.
