The short answer
Miles G. Morales is the Miles Morales of Earth-42, revealed at the end of Across the Spider-Verse in 2023. The radioactive spider that bit the Miles of Earth-1610 came from this world, which therefore never had a Spider-Man. There, Miles G. became the Prowler, a vigilante with no superpowers trained by his uncle Aaron, who is still alive, while his father Jefferson is dead. In the original version, Miles G. is voiced by Jharrel Jerome, whose return in Beyond the Spider-Verse is confirmed.

At the end of Across the Spider-Verse, when the Prowler takes off his mask, Miles sees his own face: it is Miles G. Morales, his double from Earth-42. Here is where this world comes from, why the family is reversed there, what lies behind the “G”, who voices him, how he was designed and what Sony has already shown of him for Beyond. The original Miles is introduced in our profile of Miles Morales.
Who is Miles G. Morales?
Miles G. Morales is the version of Miles the spider never bit. According to the official Across the Spider-Verse artbook, he is a vigilante who became the Prowler under the guidance of his uncle Aaron Davis. He was never bitten by a radioactive spider and so has no superpowers.
He appears in the final scene of Across. The Miles of Earth-1610, held prisoner by Earth-42's Uncle Aaron, watches the Prowler walk in and take off his mask: it is himself, in a version that never got powers. Meanwhile, Gwen assembles a team of spider-heroes to come and get him. The film ends on a “To Be Continued…” card, another card in the credits announces Miles' return in Beyond the Spider-Verse, and there is no post-credits scene. The whole film is covered in our article on Across the Spider-Verse.
His world
Earth-42, where the spider bit no one.
His role
The Prowler, a vigilante trained by Uncle Aaron.
His powers
None: he was never bitten.
The spider from Miles G.'s world
Across reveals that Earth-42 is the home universe of the radioactive spider that bit Miles: it was teleported to Earth-1610 during a test of the collider. Without that spider, Earth-42 never had a spider-hero. And that detail is what traps the hero: the Spider-Society's return machine relies on his DNA, altered by the spider from Earth-42, and so sends him to his double's world instead of taking him home.
The numbering of the worlds in the multiverse is explained in our article on every Earth in the multiverse, Miguel O'Hara's Spider-Society in our article on the Spider-Society, and every version of the web-slinger on our Spider-Verse page.
Why Miles lands on Earth-42
The Spider-Society's machine sends him back according to his DNA, altered by the spider from Earth-42: so it drops him in his double's world.
A family turned upside down: Aaron alive, Jefferson dead
On Earth-42, the family situation mirrors the hero's own. Uncle Aaron Davis, Jefferson's brother, is alive, while the father, Jefferson, is dead; the film does not show how he died. The mother, Rio Morales, is alive: when Miles reveals his double identity to her, she does not understand what he is talking about.
In the original version, Earth-42's Aaron is voiced by Mahershala Ali, who already voiced Uncle Aaron of Earth-1610 in Into the Spider-Verse in 2018; in the French dub, Frantz Confiac voices both Aarons, in the first film and the second. On Earth-1610, Aaron was the Prowler and died in the first film: his story is told in our article on the Prowler, and Miles' parents in our article on Jefferson and Rio.
| Character | Earth-1610 (the hero) | Earth-42 (Miles G.) |
|---|---|---|
| Miles | hero bitten by the spider | the Prowler, no powers |
| Jefferson Davis | alive | dead |
| Aaron Davis | dies in the first film | alive, the Prowler's mentor |
| Rio Morales | alive | alive |
Why “G”? The mystery of Miles G.'s name
No official source says what the “G” stands for. According to the film's official artbook, quoted by SuperHeroHype, the team adopted the name internally to avoid mixing up the two Miles, and it appears exactly that way in the credits. Co-director Kemp Powers uses it in interviews and in a tweet about a 2020 animation test. During production, the character also had a nickname, “Wiles”, which the press linked to Wario, Mario's evil double.
There is, however, an echo in the comics: the main Miles Morales is called Miles Gonzalo Morales; this middle name appeared in the series Miles Morales: Spider-Man by Saladin Ahmed and Javier Garrón, whose first issue came out on 12 December 2018. Nothing officially indicates that the film's “G” refers to it.
The “G” in brief
A name adopted internally to tell the two Miles apart, then carried over into the credits, with no official meaning. The link to the comics' middle name Gonzalo is only a hypothesis.
How the Prowler of Earth-42 was designed
Miles G. wasn't always the Prowler. In an already advanced development version, Uncle Aaron was the Prowler of Earth-42 and Miles his sidekick. The character was redesigned late on; Kemp Powers summed it up like this: “There was already a design for that Miles, but we sent our wonderful designer back to the drawing board”.
According to character designer Kris Anka, who led the work with Evan Monteiro, the costume had to look homemade and “not too manufactured”, while still being recognisable as the Prowler's. Seen from afar on its first appearance, it draws long lines and lots of drapery; the licensed figures reproduce its big claws, gauntlets and purple sections. If you want to get close to the look, our Spider-Man masks and our fancy dress costumes also come in the hero's darker versions.

In the original version, Miles G. Morales, the Prowler of Earth-42, is voiced by Jharrel Jerome, credited as “Miles G. Morales”, while Shameik Moore keeps the Miles of Earth-1610. The voice change was so discreet that in June 2023 SlashFilm spoke of a “hidden casting change”. Born in the Bronx, of Dominican descent, Jerome describes himself as Afro-Latino; he said himself in 2022 that he doesn't really speak Spanish.
In Across, Miles G. pronounces "Morales" the Spanish way, a detail some journalists have linked to a Spanish-speaking mother who supposedly raised him alone, although the studio has never confirmed it. In August 2025, Jharrel Jerome and Shameik Moore announced that recording had begun on Beyond. For Across, neither AlloCiné, RS Doublage nor laVF credits a French voice for the Prowler of Earth-42, and the French version of Beyond had still not been announced as of 3 November 2026. The casts of the web-slinger's live-action films are gathered on our page on the casts.
Original voice
Jharrel Jerome, in Across and then in Beyond.
The other Miles
Shameik Moore, voice of the hero of Earth-1610.
French dub
Not credited by AlloCiné, RS Doublage or laVF for Across; French dub of Beyond not announced.
Miles G. Morales Returns in Beyond the Spider-Verse
The Prowler of Earth-42 does return in Beyond the Spider-Verse: Jharrel Jerome's comeback is confirmed, and two of the official stills released by Sony in March 2025 show the Prowler, first alone and then facing the hero. As of 3 November 2026, no official trailer has been released. The footage screened at CinemaCon on 13 April 2026 was reserved for press and cinema owners, and Sony has not released it to the public: according to journalists who were there, Miles is tied to a punching bag in front of the Prowler and Uncle Aaron, who interrogate him.
Miles tells them about canon events and demands to be set free: according to TheWrap, he tells the Prowler that his father, on Earth-1610, is due to die in two days because of one of those events. The pair laugh it off, and the Prowler even mocks the way he pronounces their name. Miles then starts to "glitch" and breaks free with his electric discharge. The film is expected on 23 June 2027 in France, five days after its US release on 18 June 2027; news about the film is tracked in our article on the release date. The showdown fans are imagining is discussed in our article on what fans are hoping for, and canon events in our explainer on the multiverse.

Miles G. Is Neither Uncle Aaron nor Hobie Brown
Several characters have gone by the name Prowler. In Into the Spider-Verse, it is Uncle Aaron of Earth-1610 who wears the suit, voiced by Mahershala Ali. In Across, Donald Glover appears in live action as another Aaron Davis turned Prowler, carried over from Spider-Man: Homecoming and held prisoner by the Spider-Society; in the French dub, he is voiced by Diouc Koma, who does not voice the animated Prowler of Earth-42.
In the game Marvel Contest of Champions, the Prowler added on 11 April 2024 is Hobie Brown, not Miles G.; and the quests for the Fortnite Prowler outfit reuse lines from Uncle Aaron in Into the Spider-Verse. The web-slinger's great adversaries are introduced in our guide to the villains, and the first film in our article on Into the Spider-Verse.
