Spider-Man, true to his values, defends every life, however fragile or flawed it may be.
The battle is relentless, but Peter prevails – not through violence, but through his moral resilience. He reprogrammes the satellites, saves the planet and prevents the deaths of millions of innocents. But the victory is bitter. He has lost Silver Sable. He has had to face his own powerlessness. And above all… he senses that something is wrong with Octopus.
On the final page, Spider-Man gazes at the Earth from space, alone, drained, but still standing. This is not a blazing heroic ending. It is a mature, melancholy ending… and an unforgettable one.
