The short answer

An immortal clan led by the patriarch Solus, the Inheritors devour the essence of those who carry the spider totem and cross dimensions to hunt them down. Morlun, Verna and Jennix are only his children, and their downfall comes through Karn's betrayal and then Spider-Geddon. We break the bloodline down below.

In the darkest corners of the Marvel multiverse, a family of supernatural predators spreads fear: the Inheritors. These vampiric beings do not feed on blood, but on the life energy of the Spider-Totems, those mystical figures embodied by heroes such as Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy or Miles Morales. Their obsession? To hunt, track and wipe out every version of Spider-Man, whatever reality he comes from.

First introduced in the Spider-Verse arc (2014), the Inheritors embody a threat on an entirely different scale. Their arrival turned Spider-Man's universe into a cosmic web woven from ancestral fears and destinies bound together by the power of the spider totem. At the head of this cursed bloodline stands Morlun, a dreaded enemy Peter Parker had already crossed paths with in his darkest stories, notably in The Other.

What makes them terrifying is their ability to cross dimensions. No version of Spider-Man is truly safe. The Spider-Verse is no longer a simple narrative concept: it becomes the stage for a manhunt, a mystical war waged by immortal creatures that feed on the souls of the web-slingers.

That rising tension, brilliantly illustrated in the comics, has inspired a whole range of spin-off products. Fans can now dive into this universe through our Spider-Verse figures or our t-shirts featuring Spider-Man Noir.

A dynasty of predators: who are the Inheritors?

The Inheritors are not isolated monsters, but a genuine organised family, led by their patriarch: Solus. This authoritarian strategist sees the multiverse as a divine larder, with every Spider-Totem a sacred prey. He embodies the idea of an ancient order in which only the mystical hunters deserve to survive, even if that means exterminating every variant of Spider-Man.

Among his children, Morlun is by far the best known, made iconic by his clashes with Peter Parker in stories that have become landmarks. But he is not alone. You will also find:

  • Daemos: a bestial, brutal thug who loves the fight as much as the feast.
  • Jennix: a scientific genius, able to bend technology to serve their vampiric empire.
  • Verna: a tracker flanked by her fearsome hunting hounds, specialising in running down the Spider-Women.
  • Bora and Brix: sadistic twins who relish mental torture as much as physical.

Each of them represents a facet of the mystical terror the Spider-Totems must face in the shadows. Their ultimate goal? To capture the central Totems – notably Miles Morales or Spider-Gwen – and absorb their life force to strengthen their supremacy over the multiverse.

In this relentless struggle, every Spider-Totem becomes either a pawn or a hero in a cosmic game of chess. That is what makes the 'Spider-Verse' arc so epic, inspiring the films as much as the many Spider-Verse costumes found in our cosplay collection.

The Web of Life and the prophecy: the woven fate of the Spider-Totems

To understand the Inheritors' obsession, you have to dive into the complex mysticism of the Web of Life and Destiny. This cosmic structure connects every Spider-Totem across the multiverse. Each thread represents a life, a destiny, a sacred role to play. At its centre sits Madame Web (or her heir Julia Carpenter), guardian of that fragile balance.

The Inheritors learned to use this web as a hunting map. Thanks to Jennix and his perverted science, they develop interdimensional portals to track the Totems across realities. But one thing will derail their dominance: Karn.

Solus's rebellious son, Karn is at first a merciless killer, hunting the Spider-Men tirelessly with his sacred lance. Yet, eaten away by guilt, he ends up turning against his own siblings. That reversal proves decisive: he becomes one of the first to protect the Spider-Totems instead of exterminating them. In the Spider-Verse arc, his change of heart marks a major strategic turning point.

This conflict between destiny and free will, between hunt and survival, fuels all the dramatic tension of the Spider-Verse. And it is this narrative richness that inspired the creation of products such as the Inheritors figures, or the alternative Spider-Men available in our mask collection.

The end of a reign and the legacy of the Spider-Verse

The war against the Inheritors reaches its climax in the Spider-Geddon saga. Just when everyone thought they had been wiped out, the monsters manage to come back through cloning. But this time the Spider-Totems are ready. Thanks to the unity of heroes such as Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker, the counter-attack is fierce, coordinated and uncompromising.

It is in fact Otto Octavius, alias Superior Spider-Man, who works out the final strategy. By exploiting clone technology, the heroes trap the Inheritors in children's bodies, stripping them of all destructive power. The cycle is broken, and the Web of Life can breathe again.

This conclusion marks more than a victory: it confirms how much the alliances between Spider-Totems matter, beyond dimensions, genders or origins. It is a vibrant tribute to the richness of the multiverse, found in the comics as much as in films like Across the Spider-Verse.

By exploring this mystical, esoteric side of the web-slinger's mythology, Marvel gives fans a new way of reading it. The Spider-Totems are no longer mere variants: they are totemic figures, essential to the balance of the multiverse. And every reader, every fan, can now become part of that web by embodying their own totem, for example through our Spider-Man throws or pyjamas for young heroes.
